"This is a time of war!" was exclaimed,
"The tension has gone on too long!"
"We must fight to the death to prove which of us
is the weak and which is the strong!"
With each thought and with each pulse,
the mind and the heart fought with pride.
Exhausted from battle, but each held it's own,
to conquer the great divide.
"I am the intelligence!" said the mind,
"The body uses me to survive!""
But I am the soul!" said the heart,
"Without me, you wouldn't be alive!"
Since the dawn of time, humans were confused
about which should lead the way.
"Follow your heart" says one human,
"It will never lead you astray."
"But the mind is our intellect, it uses facts,
it doesn't lead us into the dark!"
So for years this battle continued,
with each making it's own mark.
But this war, my friends, is never won-
and it carries on to this day.
One will drag you straight to hell,
the other just paves the way.

Jellyfish
Staring into the ocean
from the safety of my boat,
observing all the ocean life
as I comfortably float.
Wondering what's beneath the water
as the sun starts going down,
dreaming of diving in
but too scared that I might drown.
Intrigued by the jellyfish
but scared of the pain of its sting,
so I sit so quietly in my boat
writing a song to sing...
Oh to swim with the jellyfish
watching its beauty and grace,
intrigued by its wonder
but terrified of its embrace.
Knowing the jellyfish can hurt me
I keep my distance, and yet
I dream of swimming with jellyfish-
but it's much too much of a threat.
There once was a jellyfish
that effortlessly hypnotized me,
but I got too close and got stung
so I tried to set it free.
It left behind the painful scar
that I still feel to this day-
I tried so hard to let it go
but couldn't seem to get away.
I was terrified of its power,
the pain of its sting was strong.
I had to let the jellyfish go-
so I now I sing this song...
Oh to swim with the jellyfish
watching its beauty and grace,
intrigued by its wonder
but terrified of its embrace.
Knowing the jellyfish can hurt me
I keep my distance, and yet
I dream of swimming with jellyfish-
but it's much too much of a threat.
Hard to Handle
Sometimes I have a bad temper,
and an attitude to match.
Sometimes I get moody
and I seem a little detached.
Sometimes I just want to cry
because I get so overwhelmed,
and I always need to be reassured,
to be loved, to be held.
Sometimes I get bossy
when things don't go my way.
Sometimes I can be a diva
when I've had a long, tough day.
Sometimes I get too motherly
with the people I care about the most-
and I get so mad when people hurt
the ones I hold so close.
So don't tell me you love me
if I'm too much for you to handle.
Don't tell me you love me
if your love flickers out like a candle.
Don't tell me you love me
if your love casually comes and goes.
I'm hard to love but I'm worth it-
and I need a love that grows.
Sometimes I get bitchy
when my hormones are out of whack.
Sometimes I whine like a child
when I've done something to hurt my back.
Sometimes I get disappointed
because my life isn't what I thought it'd be,
and I need my man to lift me up
when I'm not at the best that I can be.
Sometimes I get a little too wild
when I go party with my friends.
Sometimes I stay out too late
and you'll wonder where I've been.
Sometimes I act too young for my age
but I see no good reason to grow old.
And I need someone to run wild with me,
that will never let our fire go cold.
So don't tell me you love me
when you see that I'm a little rough.
Don't tell me you love me
and then decide you're not man enough.
Don't tell me you love me
if you can't handle me at my worst.
I'm hard to love but I'm worth it,
and I'm sick of getting hurt.
Sometimes I get so bored with life
and my gypsy side wants to run.
Sometimes I long for the family life,
to grow roots with a special someone.
Sometimes I feel so hopeless
because I get a little lost in my own mind.
Sometimes I can't see the bright side
because my faith has gone blind.
Sometimes I dream of getting married again,
and having children of my own.
Sometimes I long for the American dream-
the white picket fence, the home.
Sometimes I lose sight of it all
and want to stay in bed for days.
I'll hate my jobs and the town I'm in
and walk around in a haze.
So don't tell me you love me
if you think I've become a burden.
Don't tell me you love me
if you just add to my hurtin'.
Don't tell me you love me
if it's just a downright lie,
I'm hard to love but I'm worth it
and need a man that won't make me cry.

Seeing In the Dark
Here's another brainstorm from a phrase that Jason Sheffield had given me a few months back when I asked for writing ideas. The phrases to start with were:
The key phrases:
* Looking forward to the past
* Hitchhiking in a ghost town
* Dont make me fall in love
* Six feet under but climbing
* I'm not a sex toy
* Seeing in the dark
(Just to make sure no one gets confused- this is not a current life experience. Just a writing bug! lol!)
Soooo.... here's:
Seeing In The Dark
© Meesa Caudill
I lie awake and hear you breathing
mumbling something in your sleep-
I wonder what you're dreaming
and about the secrets that you keep.
I roll over and kiss your face
and hear you whisper a name...
it's not me you're calling out to-
and I've only got myself to blame.
All these years I've been blind,
not seeing what you need.
All these years you've given your all
and I can't give you any of me.
All these years you wanted a flame
and we didn't even have a spark-
it's taken all this time for me
to start seeing in the dark.
I was so arrogant to believe
you wouldn't find someone new.
Someone who could give their all-
give everything to you.
I underestimated your value,
didn't give you what you deserve-
and it took lying here in the dark
to see how much you're worth.
All these years you wanted a flame
and we didn't even have a spark-
it's taken all this time for me
to start seeing in the dark.

Don't Go Fallin' For A Fallen Angel
Don't Go Fallin' for a Fallen Angel
© Meesa Caudill
I wish I was the perfect angel
that you see in your dreams
but sadly, my halo's a little rusted
and there's mud on my broken wings.
I get frisky when the horns appear,
you can tell by the smirk on my face.
I can go from good to bad in a second,
that's why I fell from grace.
So don't go fallin' for a fallen angel-
I don't want to pierce your heart with my horns.
Even the most delicate rose
can hurt you with it's thorns.
Don't let my rusty halo fool you
into thinking I'm good as gold-
I'm soft as heaven to be next to
but I'm hard as hell to hold.
I'll torment you with desire
and put you under my spell-
but don't try to hold too tightly
cause I'll drag you straight through hell.
I leave a trail of tears in my path,
shattered hearts I leave behind.
I can be as sweet as sugar
or I can make you lose your mind.
So don't go fallin' for a fallen angel-
I don't want to pierce your heart with my horns.
Even the most delicate rose
can hurt you with it's thorns.
Don't let my rusty halo fool you
into thinking I'm good as gold-

Don't Make Me Fall In Love (A writing experiment...)
Time to clear the brain again! I was doing good on the writing each night for a few days but I slipped again. I just mixed up a cake and have it in the oven for 40 minutes, so I'm gonna take this time to spill out some thoughts in font. My buddy Jason Sheffield gave me a few key phrases to build on and so I think I'm gonna experiment with that. I'm gonna try to throw a few in, hopefully all if my brain will let me! Let's see where it takes me! (Again, thanks Jason!)
The key phrases:
* Looking forward to the past
* Hitchhiking in a ghost town
* Dont make me fall in love
* Six feet under but climbing
* I'm not a sex toy
* Seeing in the dark
(okay, after a few minutes of deliberating, I don't believe I can do it with all of them at once. BUT I am going to allow the ideas to sink in and see what I come up with!)
Don't Make Me Fall In Love

Don't look at me
as if
I'm the only one in the room
if,
in your peripherals,
you're checking out
that girls
ass.
Don't speak to me
in that soft tone,
telling me your
secrets,
dreams,
and fears
if all you're doing
is trying
to convince me
to
fuck you.
Don't make me laugh
by being
charming
and witty
if the joke turns out
to be
on me.
Don't caress my skin
as if it's made of
priceless silk
if your only intentions
are to caress me
into
false intimacy.
Don't tell me I'm beautiful
and that I'm perfect
in your eyes
if you find perfection
in everything
with
tits.
Don't tell me that
you love me if,
in reality,
the only love
you have ever felt
is for
yourself.
Don't convince me
that I'm the only object
of your desires
if you get hard
at the
thought
of one of my
best friends
naked.
Don't fool me
into believing
that you're the perfect man
when my mind
(when logical)
knows there
is no such thing.
Don't make me
fall
in love
with
you.

Dreams of Alabama
Dreams of Alabama
© Meesa Caudill
It's been a long time since she's seen him-
since she wanted so badly for him to stay-
she lets her mind drift back a few years
to that warm, breezy night in May.
He was the only one she could see
in the bar's soft neon glow,
the world disappeared, no one else existed-
and for the night time moved so slow.
Such a short time she spent with him
but it made her want forever-
she never believed in love at first sight
until their precious time together.
She dreamed of Alabama starry nights
while lying in his embrace.
For just one night she imagined her life
surrounded by Southern grace.
Now her mind drifts off to Alabama-
but her memories have begun to fade,
life could have been so perfect
if her Alabama would have stayed.
It's been years since she's seen his face
and his dark chocolate brown eyes.
She gets a message that hes looking for her
and she begins to feel the butterflies.
The years apart have made her a cynic
so she puts the butterflies to rest,
but she can't stop the longing in her soul
and that aching in her chest.
She finds herself getting lost in daydreams,
trying to remember his dimpled grin.
Her thoughts get lost in Alabama
and she imagines what could have been.
She dreams of Alabama starry nights
and again lying in his embrace.
For just one more night she'll imagine her life
surrounded by Southern grace.
Now her mind drifts off to Alabama-
but her memories have begun to fade,
life could have been so perfect
if her Alabama would have stayed.

I Knew Better
I knew better.
I should have known better.
You'd think I'd know better
than to go falling for you.
I shouldn't let you linger in my head
or be inspired to write songs about you...
I shouldn't be haunted by your eyes-
I knew what I was getting myself into.
I knew that you were dangerous-
I told you that from the start...
I didn't want you to touch me
for fear of you ripping out my heart.
Yet I ignored my instincts
and told myself you were 'just fun'-
I've tried so many times to quit you
but there's nowhere for me to run.
I knew better.
I should have known better.
You'd think I'd know better
than to go falling for you.
Punish me, I deserve it-
tear out my heart, you know you're going to.
I knew better.
I should have known better.
You'd think I'd know better
than to go falling for you.
Each time you come back tempting me
and I can't tell you no-
you know how to get inside my brain...
now you're invading my soul.
When you're not here I think of you-
when you're here I don't want you to leave...
I'm so stupid for letting you get to me-
how could I have been so naive???
And how can you be so cruel to me
to let this carry on-
knowing that I can't let you go
yet, in the morning you'll be gone.
So go ahead, tear out my heart-
we both know you're going to...
I expect the pain, I expect the tears-
my punishment for falling for you.
I should have known better.
You'd think I'd know better
than to go falling for you.

Questioning Life
Who am I?
What do I want out of life?
What do I expect from love?
What do I expect from myself?
The questions that all of us have asked ourselves throughout our lives... mostly still unanswered. Does anyone ever have the answers? From what I see- the majority of the population struggles with that inner battle of the heart and mind, wandering the world searching for hints, signs as to what they want, who they are. Most of the time when we get what we think we want, we still wonder. When does the questioning end and the enjoyment of life begin?
Who am I?
I am a walking contradiction. I am the girl next door, yet can be quite a diva when things don't seem to be going my way. I am sweet as sugar, but pretty sour when crossed. I am affectionate and loving but need space. I am independent but still needy. I am proud and strong but on the inside I am still the little girl crying for help. I am 'one of the boys' but still cry at chick flicks and crave the fairytale romance. I am a cynic yet still gullible. I trust no one but I still have that blind faith that all humans are good. I am an optimistic pessimist, I expect the worst but still hope for the best. I am a whirlwind of emotion but can come across as a cold-hearted bitch. I fit no definition, I fall into more than one stereotype. There is no solid answer of who I am- yet I just wrote it. How do you see me? How do you see yourself?
What do I want out of life?
I want simplicity, comfort, love, happiness, and fun. I want a real, deep, committed, unconditional relationship. I want to have a successful marriage one day. I want a family. I want the "American dream". I want to be financially comfortable. I want to travel. I want to see things that inspire me and leave me in awe. I want to be respected and to finally be rid of the 'white trash' shadow that has haunted me my whole life. I want to be known. I want to live each day as if it were my last and I want the resources that allow me to do that. I want to stop feeling caged- to no longer be trapped in this town, in this apartment, in this life. I want to love. I want to live. I want to love living!
What do I expect from love?
Again- my expectations are a contradiction. I try to not expect anything yet I always hope for that fairytale. I want to be swept off my feet. I want to feel like a woman and not a toy. I want to be worshiped, respected, spoiled, loved. I need romance. I need surprises. I need to have my breath taken away every now and then. I want to be missed when I'm not there. I want to be thought of. I want to be irreplaceable. I want to be the girl who makes his eyes light up when I walk into the room. I want to be the one that puts the smile on his face. I want to be treated as if I'm the only woman on the planet. I want it all.
What do I expect from myself?
I keep telling myself I can do better than I am. I tell myself I deserve better than what I get. But on the inside I don't think I truly believe it. I settle for mediocre. Why? Is it because I feel I'm not worthy of the best? I ask myself every day why my life has turned out the way it has. And I know it's because I have not pushed myself to my potential. Yet when I think about trying I'm too scared to put any thoughts into action because I have no faith in myself. I don't think I'm smart enough, or strong enough, or good enough. How do we change self-destructive behavior? Do we have to find the root of it to begin to understand it? Is it possible to change?
There really is no point to this note... I just felt the need to write. So with that I shall end this note with a few quotes.
"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will find them gradually, without noticing it, and live along some distant day into the answer." ~ Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet
"All men should strive to learn before they die
what they are running from, and to, and why."
~ James Thurber
"To the question of your life you are the answer, and to the problems of your life you are the solution." ~ Joe Cordare
"Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves." ~ Henry David Thoreau
"Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth." ~ Alan Watts
"We run away all the time to avoid coming face to face with ourselves." ~ Author Unknown
"Your distress about life might mean you have been living for the wrong reason, not that you have no reason for living." ~ Tom O'Connor
"Few people know so clearly what they want. Most people can't even think what to hope for when they throw a penny in a fountain." ~ Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams
And my favorite- the one that is most inspirational to me right now...
"If you aren't sure who you are, you might as well work on who you want to be." ~ Robert Brault

Seventeen
4 a.m., alone again, in front of this old computer screen...
playing songs that take me back to the days of seventeen.
I was young and wild- the taste of freedom exciting & new...
didn't have a care in the world... and all I wanted was you.
I gave you my heart that winter, gave you my soul that spring...
you gave me a key to keep around my neck, years later you gave me a ring.
We promised each other forever, not knowing forever just wouldn't be-
and now I sit here so many years later, ghosts of the past still haunting me.
Real love has evaded me since you, true emotion I can't seem to find.
I've been told that I'm too guarded, they tell me my wall is too high.
No one even dares to climb it, they damn sure don't try to tear it down-
I guess they know that once they cross it, your ghost is still around.

Thin Line
I love the way you look at me,
I love the way you smell.
I love your grin and your bright eyes.
I hate you! Go to hell!
I love the way you laugh,
I love the way you say my name.
I love it when I hear from you.
Fuck you! Stop playing games!
I love how no one else exists to me,
I love that you're always on my mind.
I love the way you touch me.
I'm sick of wasting my fucking time!
I love your sense of humor.
I love your charm and wit.
I love that you're intelligent.
You're an asshole & I'm tired of your shit!
I love that you make me laugh.
I love that you turn me on so much.
I love that you give me butterflies.
I don't want to long for your touch!
I love that you can't stay away from me.
I love that I can't leave you alone.
I love when you sleep next to me.
Don't ever call me again, go home!!!
I love it that we just seem to fit together.
I love how I feel when I'm with you.
I love it that you won't admit you're jealous sometimes.
Leave me alone, I'm through!!!!
I hate your fucking guts
and yet I love your fucking face.
You're the one I fucking hate to love.
You're the one I love to fucking hate!
I love the way you smell.
I love your grin and your bright eyes.
I hate you! Go to hell!
I love the way you laugh,

I Hope
I hope you're happy-
you broke my heart.
I hope you're satisfied-
I'm torn apart.
I hope your days are bright
while mine are filled with rain.
I hope your body is numb
while mine is filled with pain.
I hope you're having fun
while I cry myself to sleep.
I hope you're really in love.
Oh, God, it hurts so deep.
I hope you're in paradise
while I'm in a burning hell.
I hope you're thinking of me,
but if you were you'd never tell.
I hope your dreams come true
while mine are being shattered.
I hope your soul is at peace
while mine is torn and battered.
I hope you're wondering
what it's like to meet death-
and I'd tell you if I had the chance
but I now take my last breath.
I hope you have the chance to know
what it's like to say goodbye
to someone that you've loved for so long.
Goodbye, boy, I hope you cry.
you broke my heart.
I hope you're satisfied-
I'm torn apart.
I hope your days are bright
while mine are filled with rain.
I hope your body is numb
while mine is filled with pain.
I hope you're having fun

My Addiction
I know I should have never
inhaled you into my soul.
The taste of you should have never
touched my lips
or left such a tingling to linger
on my tongue.
In such a time as this
with all of the drama
in my life-
thoughts of you are
the only thing to put
a smile on my face.
If anyone found out
my little secret -
especially him-
it would drastically change
my life forever.
It could possibly destroy
everything I have worked
so hard for.
But knowing this
does not deter my feelings
about you.
Its as if you have given me
the emotional strength
to not see the negative
in what I am doing.
When I am awake
all I can do is think of you.
When I am asleep
all I can do is dream of you.
The thought of seeing you
takes my breath
and impure thoughts
start running through my mind.
Oh, to breathe you in again
and to have the taste of you
on my tongue.
You are my new addiction...
my cocaine.

My Angel Baby
To my son I'll never hold,
who's eyes I'll never see.
The baby who never got to feel
the loving touch from me.
I'll never know if you had dimples,
never get to see you grin.
I'll never get to hear your laugh,
never see if you had a dimple on your chin.
I'll never get to hear you say mama,
never know if daddy would be your first word.
All I know is that there is now a void,
nothing can ever heal this hurt.
I'll never get to hold your tiny hand
as I teach you to cross a street.
Daddy will never get to teach you to ride a bike,
or how to climb a tree.
I'll never get to answer your silly questions,
or wipe your tears when you cry.
I'll never get to kiss your hurts away
or teach you to get the kite to fly.
We'll never have your first Christmas,
never dress you for your first Halloween.
Now I only have my 5 month of memories of you
filled with hopes and dreams.
For the 20 weeks you were in my womb
you found a place in my heart.
You had become a piece of my soul
and it has now been ripped apart.
I saw you but didn't even get to meet you,
didn't get to feel your tiny touch.
And yet I can't seem to stop these tears
because I already miss you so much.
Goodbye my little angel bear.
Aiden Blaine Rose - you will always be my first.
And no matter how many come along after you-
for you my heart will always hurt.
May God hold you in His hands
and protect you with His loving grace.
And I hope when I get there you'll remember me
so I can finally kiss your face.
who's eyes I'll never see.
The baby who never got to feel
the loving touch from me.
I'll never know if you had dimples,
never get to see you grin.
I'll never get to hear your laugh,

Watch Over Me
I look up at the sky, the clouds, the moon,
and even wish upon a star.
Can you see me from Heaven?
Is that where you are?
Are you holding my baby boy?
Has he grown his angel wings?
Has he given you a smile,
the one I'll never see?
Have you taken him fishing
like you said you were going to do?
Does he look like me or Logan,
does he resemble you?
Are his eyes as black as coal
just like I wanted them to be?
Or are they blue just like his daddy's?
Does he have dimples in his cheeks?
Have you told him any stories yet?
Have you held his little hand?
Have you told him who his mommy is
and how his daddy is a great man?
Have you gotten to meet Jesus?
Does he hold my baby boy?
Does my angel baby giggle
while he plays with Heaven's toys?
Does he know that you're his Pa-paw
and that I was your little girl?
Do you know how I much I miss you both?
Does he know he was my world?
Does he know his mommy loves him?
Does he know his daddy does too?
Please give my angel kisses for me,
and know I love both of you.
and even wish upon a star.

Passion
A heat Ive never known flows through me,
I feel the flame of lust ignite,
Baby take me in your arms
And make me climb the walls tonight.
Im feeling a little mischievous,
Naughty is my middle name
I want to make you feel alive-
Lets play some grown-up games
I know youre feeling the same way I do-
To hell with morals tonight.
I want you and I know you want me
So why are we putting up a fight?
Lets get raw, lets get dirty
Lets make each other sweat
I want to make you cry my name
make the neighbors want a cigarette.
Bring out the oils, play some slow jams,
Light a candle or two
Tonight lets just forget the world
Its only me and you.
Heartbeat to heartbeat, breath to breath,
The heat of your body on mine-
My legs wrapping around your waist,
Our fingers intertwined.
Lets break down our walls, break down the bed,
break each other in
Lets be deviant, lets be decadent-
To hell with consequence
I know youre feeling the same way I do-
To hell with morals tonight.
I want you and I know you want me
So why are we putting up a fight?
Lets get raw, lets get dirty
Lets make each other sweat
I want to make you cry my name
make the neighbors want a cigarette.
Lets get raw, lets get dirty
Lets make each other sweat
I want to make you cry my name
make the neighbors want a cigarette.....

Written for my son on his birthday...
Today is your 'birthday' and I''m torn apart,
I can't throw you a party with little toy cars...
don't get to see you with cake everywhere,
don't get to take you for the first trim of your hair.
I don't get to kiss you or hold your tiny hand,
I'll never get to see you grow into a man.
All I can do is visit your grave and cry,
missing you on your birthday, wanting you by my side,
wanting so badly to hold you and tell you everything's okay
cause mommy is here forever to kiss the boo-boos away.
This emptiness inside leaves an eternal, aching void.
I miss you and love you Aiden- you'll always be my little boy.
I can't throw you a party with little toy cars...
don't get to see you with cake everywhere,
don't get to take you for the first trim of your hair.
I don't get to kiss you or hold your tiny hand,
I'll never get to see you grow into a man.
All I can do is visit your grave and cry,

I miss you and love you Aiden- you'll always be my little boy.

To My Son While I Was Pregnant
Life will always change,
love will sometimes die...
you will laugh often,
and just as often cry.
Friends will come into your life,
and they'll disappear.
You'll wonder where time went
As it passes year by year.
You'll have to work hard
to survive everyday,
just don't forget
to make time to play.
Find a reason to smile
With every breath you take
For you never know
When you'll feel real heartache.
Revel in the moments
That take your breath away
Because what makes you happy
Can be taken from you today.
Don't live in the past,
Always look to tomorrow.
But don't forget to live in the moment,
Never be swallowed by sorrow.
Live with no regrets,
Mistakes make you who you are-
Just be sure to learn from them,
But don't let them leave scars.
If someone breaks your heart,
Chalk it up to lesson learned.
Don't try to make them love you
Or you will get burned.
Don't rush through childhood,
Have fun while it lasts.
You'll have plenty of time to grow up
And you can never go back.
Always remember that you are loved
And alone you'll never be.
Life is a lesson one must learn for themselves,
But you can always turn to me.

A Letter to My Daddy 38 Days After His Suicide
Well Dad, it's been 38 days since you did the unthinkable. 38 days.
38 days of heartache.
38 days of holding back the tears.
38 days of trying to be strong.
38 days of being numb.
38 days of missing you.
Mom, Bobbie, Kourtney, and Gregory are ok. Mom and Bobbie fight more now it seems. I think it's because everyone is so angry and hurt, and none of us know where to direct it or how to deal with it. Me, I'm the same. I hide. I write. I pretend it's not true. It helps sometimes, but then there are times like this morning when I can't hold it in anymore and I break. I try not to, but the tears won't stop.
I found out that you were right, Dad. I'm having a boy. I wonder if he'll have blonde hair and brown eyes like you said. I can hear you now saying "See, you'll learn to listen to your ol' crazy daddy every now and then" and see you with that goofy grin because you'd be happy you're having another grandson. Unfortunately, I can only see and hear that in my heart because you're not here. You were supposed to be here to take him and Gregory fishing. Remember? My son was supposed to be your shadow, supposed to follow Pa-paw around everywhere. REMEMBER??? How can he do that now, Dad? Now he'll never know you. He'll never hear your laugh or see your smile that we all love so much. I wanted him to know you so badly, Dad. Why did you steal that from him? From me? From yourself???
Dammit Dad, you were SUPPOSED to be here! I wanted so badly to run into mom's the day I had my ultrasound and grab you and give you the biggest hug and tell you congrats because you were going to have another grandson to spoil. Your first blood grandchild is going to be a boy. I wanted so badly to see that smile and to see your big brown eyes light up. But I couldn't Dad. I fucking couldn't because you left me. And I can't shake this pain, Dad. I can't make it go away. I can't get rid of this heaviness on my chest. I can't keep smiling at people pretending I'm ok. I don't know how to deal with the way I feel now. I try so hard to be normal but nothing is even fun anymore. I can't call you anymore and tell you about something crazy I saw or did. I just want to call you, Dad.
Mom and I are supposed to come to London this weekend to visit your grave. I don't know how either of us will handle seeing your name on a headstone for the first time. I don't know about Mom, but it's just going to rip me apart even more. I know that on my way down there I'll be subconsciously thinking that we're actually going to see YOU, and then when it's just a piece of marble on the ground bearing your name, it will kill me a little more inside. I don't know if that's a reality I can face yet. Seeing you in a casket was bad enough, but you just looked like you were sleeping so it wasn't that bad. I still saw YOU. But this will hurt more. How do I do it, Dad? How could you have done it? You didn't have to live through your parents dying, they're still here. Why did you leave me to deal with this, Dad?
I can't help but hear your last words to me the last time I talked to you, when you told me you were proud of me. Dammit Dad, why didn't you give me a hint? Why didn't you say something? Why didn't you talk to me?!?!?!?! I told you I didn't know why you were proud of me, and now I really don't. I'm a mess, Dad. I wish you were here so I could talk to you, but all I can do is write about it. All I can do is wake up each day and put on a smile and carry on as if everything is ok.
I love you, Dad.
And I miss you more than you could have ever known.
Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face
You told me how proud you were, but I walked away
If only I knew what I know today
Ooh, ooh
I would hold you in my arms
I would take the pain away
Thank you for all you've done
Forgive all your mistakes
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To hear your voice again
Sometimes I wanna call you
But I know you won't be there
Ohh I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you
Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit
Sometimes I just wanna hide 'cause it's you I miss
And it's so hard to say goodbye
When it comes to this, oooh
Would you tell me I was wrong?
Would you help me understand?
Are you looking down upon me?
Are you proud of who I am?
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To have just one more chance
To look into your eyes
And see you looking back
Ohh I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself, ohh
If I had just one more day
I would tell you how much that I've missed you
Since you've been away
Ooh, it's dangerous
It's so out of line
To try and turn back time
I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you.

Conversation With A Dead Man
Writing words that cannot be spoken,
trying to heal a heart that’s numb and broken.
Filling a blank page with tears that have been shed,
seeking words to explain the shit in my head.
Nothing but a void left, along with your things.
Your tools, your clothes, and the pain your leaving brings.
Your lunchbag at the house, still contains stale chips,
a can of tuna, and some crackers that will never touch your lips.
Mom will never throw it away, I know. Somehow it comforts her.
Like a sign you’ll be home again, not buried in dirt.
You left us your memories, and so many broken hearts-
I guess you thought it would bring us together, it’s only ripping us apart.
I don’t understand why you deserted us, I know you were in pain,
but if only you would have quit drinking. Your death was in vain.
It serves no purpose, didn’t solve a damn thing.
Only left us hurting, angry, and with no one but you to blame.
Dammit Dad, why’d you leave me??? You knew you could turn to me!
You didn’t even call to say goodbye before you set yourself free.
You left us here with all the "if only’s" and "what if’s"...
didn’t you think about us??? Didn’t you give a shit???
I love you Dad and I fucking miss you, more than you’ll ever know.
I just wish you would’ve given me the chance to tell you before you let us go.
trying to heal a heart that’s numb and broken.
